In 2020 Virtual Room Makeovers became a growing trend, especially with the people stranded in their homes and bedrooms with lots of free time.
Virtual Room Makeover is a budget-friendly design project done entirely online, relying solely on 3D software. Virtual Designers often use the term Virtual Design Planner, which is identical to the virtual room makeover. Projects vary from one room up to multiple areas with end goals comparable to interior projects.
Many people have the ability to walk in a furniture shop and see what’s available to them, but in 2020, all that changed. Selecting furniture and decors for your home can be a challenge when you are already living in it.

The virtual bedroom designer
61% of online design projects start with a bedroom, 35% of online design projects start with a kitchen and there is a reason behind these numbers.
Designing a bedroom is less expensive than a kitchen with its appliances and expensive materials. Around April – May 2020, people saw themselves locked in their houses and apartments for more than 20 hours per day and that drove the need for re-organizing the spaces, starting from additional bedrooms.
This is where I decided to get into the role of the Virtual Bedroom Designer of the internet and share some knowledge of how this whole thing works, moreover how easy and cost-effective it is.
Virtual Bedroom Design on a budget
Not everyone has the budget to hire an interior designer to plan a new layout. Although that’s the best possible way to design a house makeover, there are ways where everything is done virtually with an app. Virtual Room Makeover apps are becoming more popular by the day, but many requiring some design knowledge.
Some are phone apps where you install and start playing with the settings, and home staging companies offer more advanced and detailed virtual room makeovers.
To your surprise, Virtual Room Makeovers are used not only for design makeovers but for selling real estate.
If you are in desperate need of a bedroom re-design, why not try out our virtual bedroom design?

Virtual Room Makeover
I have been doing virtual room makeovers for a few years now, and recently there has been an increasing avalanche of questions “How are you doing these room makeovers?”
I have written already on many similar topics over the last few months, which might be interesting and relevant read if you are into Virtual room makeovers and in general Room Design applications:
I suppose you’d be thinking, what made write this article?
I love design challenges, and I still remembered my first project 12 years ago; a very cluttered apartment (moderate size) and the client have not “decided” what was their budget limit, but they “knew” what their new place should look like.
I will not fall into unwrapping the whole story, but I wish I knew the craft of virtual interior makeovers; my life and my client’s life would have been easy back then during those six months.
And now let’s move on to the real thing here!
How I converted a home office to a bedroom?
Challenged with this task, I studied the process we at TALLBOX use from start to the very end. You may have seen commercials about our services on Facebook or Instagram. In case you missed all of that, you can take a look here.
To respond to all of your questions without wasting time writing lengthy articles, I’ve recorded 90 minutes of me decluttering and giving a complete overhaul of this home office into a lovely contemporary bedroom.
You can watch it just by clicking on the video below:
The type of Virtual room makeover I am describing is different than most Room design apps like ( Roomstyler; Ikea Place, and Havenly ).
Many of the Room design apps resemble the PC game The Sims.

The real power of the virtual makeover is not only in the transformation but in the realism and details. While most Room design apps work with limited libraries and a large percent of the delivered projects often contain identical design products.
Take a picture and redecorate your home
It’s easier than you think. Take a picture of a room and design it. Send the images to your preferred makeover designer or try the DIY method with phone apps.
Before and After the Virtual Bedroom Makeover transformation

Naturally, most people’s biggest design challenge is envisioning what is achievable within the space they have and, more importantly, their budget.
Things get complicated especially if they want to keep some of their current furniture like armchairs, stools, or lampshades.

I’d imagine a person’s frustration if they decide to stick to the DIY method with the Room design apps.
Playing the role of the Virtual Room Designer
The steps I’ve done in the 90 minutes Virtual Room Makeover video above are simple but important. There is a part that I had already planned offline and that is the style of the newly transformed space into a bedroom.
I have removed all the clutter to clearly depict the space: floor, walls, ceiling, and light. Knowing what I want to accomplish, I have imported the 3D model of the bed, credenza, and accessories. The rest is software magic and tricks, which I’ve learned to do on over 5000 projects.
This is by no means simplifying the project, but in general, the steps are really that simple. One of the most important things I’ve kept insight into was the budget and type of furniture I used. Those two components are important for the next stage where the client will purchase them and use them.
While every method has its merits and disadvantages, if you have to go through the pain to plan a house makeover by yourself again and again for every room, isn’t wise to save time and leave that to the pros?
Time is not cheap, if you plan your choices, you can save time by spending money, and time is the resource we can’t earn or turn back.
Why not take a look at what other virtual design services we have on offer?
