Muji House - Concept stage

In a quiet, leafy neighborhood, an old Victorian property stood proudly, its garden sprawling out behind it. The owners, a young couple with a passion for minimalist design, decided to transform a portion of the expansive garden into a separate, Muji-inspired cottage.

The project began with careful planning, ensuring that the new structure would seamlessly blend with the natural surroundings while maintaining a clean, uncluttered aesthetic. The cottage was designed as a single-story dwelling, embracing the simplicity and functionality that Muji is known for.

The exterior of the cottage featured a combination of natural materials, such as wood and stone, creating a harmonious connection with the garden. The roof, pitched to add a touch of traditional charm, was clad in sleek, dark tiles that contrasted beautifully with the light-colored walls.

Inside, the open-plan layout created a sense of spaciousness and fluidity. The kitchen, dining, and living areas were combined into one cohesive space, allowing for easy movement and communication. The kitchen featured streamlined cabinetry in a soft, neutral palette, with integrated appliances that blended seamlessly into the design.

The living area was defined by a plush, low-profile sofa in a warm, earthy tone, accompanied by a simple, wooden coffee table. A few carefully chosen pieces of artwork adorned the walls, adding subtle pops of color to the otherwise understated scheme.

One of the most striking features of the cottage was the series of minimalistic sliding glass doors that lined the rear wall. These doors, framed in slim, black aluminum, offered an unobstructed view of the garden and allowed natural light to flood the interior. When opened, they created a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces, encouraging a connection with nature.

The bathrooms, like the rest of the cottage, embraced simplicity. They featured clean lines, monochromatic color schemes, and high-quality, water-saving fixtures. The use of natural materials, such as wood and stone, added a spa-like touch to these intimate spaces.

As the cottage neared completion, the owners marveled at the transformation of their garden. The Muji-inspired design had created a peaceful, functional, and aesthetically pleasing retreat that complemented the character of the original Victorian property. The new cottage stood as a testament to the power of minimalist design, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
